Our Story

Armed Strong of Dallas was founded by Brian Armstrong, Kim Johnson, and Tony Murphy with a mission to empower and mentor minority youth. Our organization is dedicated to providing support, resources, and guidance to help young individuals reach their full potential. Together, we strive inspire and uplift the next generation, fostering a sense of community and opportunity. us in making a positive impact on the lives of these young leaders.

Meet the Team

Founder

Brian Armstrong

With over 35 years of experience in the Barbering industry,

I have built a career rooted in craftsmanship, mentorship and community service.

My journey began In Tulsa Oklahoma where I honed my skills and developed a passion for not just cutting hair but shaping lives.

For the past 16 years I have proudly owned and managed the oldest Black owned Barbershop in Allen Texas, a cornerstone of the community where generations have gathered for more than just a haircut- it's a place of connection, guidance and empowerment. The “ Shop” serves as a safe space for young boys and men, offering mentorship, employment opportunities and life advice that extends far beyond the chair.

My commitment to uplifting others is evident in my extensive work with youth. I served as Youth Director for the Collin County Black Chamber of Commerce and have organized activities and fundraisers to support thise in need,

ensuring that young people have access to resources and opportunities that can shape their futures. My dedication extends to sponsoring and donating to youth sports, reinforcing the importance of teamwork, discipline and perseverance.

Understanding the importance of career pathways, I also collaborate with local Military branches, providing young men with options to explore structured and meaningful futures.

Through my faith in GOD, leadership mentorship and an unwavering commitment to service, I strive to continue to make a lasting impact-one haircut at a time.

Community Outreach Director

Tony Murphy

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Tony L. Murphy is a retired Chief Petty Officer who honorably served 21 years in the United States Navy. His journey began in 2002 as a Ship's Serviceman (SH), a role in which he served for three years aboard two naval vessels.

In 2006, Chief Murphy transitioned to recruiting, returning to his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, until 2010. It was during this time that he discovered his passion for mentoring and guiding young people. His exceptional performance earned him the "Recruiter of the Year" award and a nomination for "Recruiter of the Nation." Following this successful tour, he continued serving across various locations, recruiting the best and brightest young men and women to shape the future of the nation.

For his final tour, from 2018 to 2023, he served as the Community Outreach Director at Navy Talent Acquisition Group Dallas. In this role, Chief Murphy (RET) empowered numerous organizations to partner with the Navy, making a significant difference in the lives of Sailors. His notable collaborations include work with the Dallas Cowboys, USAA, and Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach. He also led community initiatives such as The Dallas Renegades partnership, the Adopt-a-Highway program, participation in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade, and numerous back-to-school supply drives and food and toy drives for underprivileged families.

Now residing in Allen, Texas, Tony continues his dedicated work in the community.
